Offshore Wind Energy North Carolina is home to absolutely massive offshore wind power potential – capable of providing energy to over 56 million homes! In 2014, the federal government identified three wind energy areas off of both the northern and southern portions of the state and is scheduled to hold an auction for the northernmost area on March 16, 2017.
